Lecture Content

This lecture will introduce the “Three-Level Targeted Diagnosis” and how to apply targeted prescriptions in acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine. The approach aims to identify key diagnostic targets within the body, enabling precise and effective treatments for various conditions by addressing both symptoms and underlying root causes. Participants will learn how to apply targeted acupuncture points and herbal prescriptions to enhance therapeutic outcomes, improving the efficacy of treatments and reducing the likelihood of recurrence.

“Targeted Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Classical Prescription Acupuncture” is a practical clinical discipline founded by Dr. Liu Jinhong, our college president, to achieve targeted diagnosis and treatment in TCM. Through long-term clinical practice combining acupuncture and herbal medicine for the treatment of tumors, pain, and various complex internal and gynecological conditions, we have observed that the mechanisms of disease development often concentrate on three key targets. These reflect both local and systemic issues caused by blockages and deficiencies. Clinically, while treating locally, we identify the blocked meridians and weakened organs and administer targeted acupuncture and medications. Acupuncture guides the medicine, while medicine supports acupuncture, greatly enhancing the combined efficacy. This method achieves simultaneous treatment of symptoms and root causes, helping to prevent disease recurrence.

In acupuncture, we focus on clearing meridians and often select meridian points to guide energy flow. The herbal treatments nourish the five organs, typically using classical prescriptions to warm and nurture the organs’ qi. Local treatments, such as external herbal applications, needling, or moxibustion, are also applied. This “three-in-one” approach—targeted diagnosis, targeted treatment, and optimized combination of classical prescriptions and acupuncture—has formed a systematic theory and method, proving highly valuable for improving the clinical efficacy of TCM and acupuncture and worthy of broader application.
